Hello, this is Goerge (yes, spelled that way on PURPOSE :D), admin at fpsbanana.com
Now that this is on steam, some people asked me about hosting this mod, but our server is linux. Doesn't seem there are enough dedi servers out there for this game.

Was wondering if there was an ETA on the linux bins, or at least confirmation that they are being worked on.

Thanks

From what I understand next week when they release the new patch, linux bins will also be available. The patch is suppose to be towards the end of the week.

has or will the server been tweaked a little to ease the load put on the server ?

Great mod but the server really puts a load even on my quad core server and the dual core server is a bit laggy

srcds is not multi threaded, so it won't matter if you have a quadrillion cores.

What matters is each core... for one diprip server, one conroe 3.4Ghz core is better than multiple conroe 2.4ghz cores.

I knew that , I run each server on different cores one for each game. whatI noticed is diprip uses a lot more resources.

Quad core mach ine is a woodcrest 2.4 and the dual core is a zeon 2.0 .

that's probably more because its a crappy windows box instead of a real server running some *NIX based OS.

We are aware of the fact there is a lot to be done in terms of optimizing resource usage on the server side. We will move to that subject as soon as we are done with the linux build. DIPRIP will probably always be "heavier" then other games that involve human players only because of the physics simulation that is done on the server, however we know that we can still improve a lot of things.

This mod can be really fun but I'm sure you've noticed it is dying and I think a lot of the reason is due to lack of good servers.

It's been a year since this was initially asked about and this mod shouldn't have been released with a linux server build.

Seriously, find someone that can code the linux build and do it now. I'm sure there are plenty of linux coders that can do it and be willing to do it for free. Find them and get it done or say goodbye to this mod.
